Two Wish-list Items for MapGuide that would make it Rock!

Two things that MapGuide requires that would make it really rock (and would be “game changers”)

1. FDO Provider for DWG with Object Data and Link Template (just the key) support (like in MG 6.5)

2. WFS-T Support so we can use the OpenLayers save button for editing data natively (like GeoServer)

The first is definitely the highest priority and the second would save hundreds of hours programming.

I think the reason why there hasn’t been a DWG FDO provider is because MapGuide is a multi-platform product whereas AutoCAD and its DWG read/write libraries are windows only. But hey, Autodesk just released a native Mac version of AutoCAD (in effect, making their DWG technology multi-platform) so this may be a prospect in the near future.

Hi Jackie, I know – perhaps the FDO might not be the best idea, but at least a custom connector for DWG with Object Data and Link Templates that render the map “as is” without styling – but can be tied to the database for reports and tooltips.

Another wishlist item, suggested by Juan Carlos, is to have feature properties drive the Symbol and Colours in the Layer. Currently you can rotate and size with the properties but not colour or symbol name.

I’d like to be able to fully construct a map from scratch using the Oracle provider. As it is Oracle and raster data connections can’t be created at runtime.
