Using Map 3D 2010 with Oracle? Better use 10G client!

Hi All, here’s one that stumped me (I should have read the documentation!).

If you want to connect AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 to Oracle with FDO, remember to use the 10G client and not the 9i one. Even if you are connecting to a 9i database.

That one stumped me for a while.

i want to ask you one question.
did you know how to link Oracle database with Autodesk Map 3D?

Certainly. I do this all the time. You can use FDO (either the Autodesk one or the SL KING).

just create a new datastore – log into oracle
    create new datastore
Create a new datastore – with coordainte system and extents

Then save it, do not bother adding tables and features yet

Then drag and drop your data (i.e. SHP files into AutoCAD Map) and then Bulk Copy into Oracle
    bulk copy

i did the same procedure for exporting shape file from autocad 3d 2010 to oracle 10g Express edition…..

but how can i view the exported data in oracle spatial?iam unable to view this data as a table…
how this data will be stored in oracle 10g express edition?what is the query for seeing this data??

In Oracle (or Oracle Express), you can view the data in either Map 3D or MapGuide. Just use the FDO Connector (see above)

Also, if install SQL Developer from Oracle (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html)
    And install GeoRaptor (http://sites.google.com/site/mygeoraptor/installation)

    you can view the data…

    Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your reply.yes, iam able to view the data in mapguide.but i want to query the data in oracle…by using oracle query….

i mean by querying select * from is there any possiblity to see the exported data…

how the data will be stored in oracle (table? or view??).
because i have exported shp file data from map3d to oracle 10g XE

    by typing the query
select * from tab; in oracle iam unable to view the datastore name given in map3d….

Try logging into oracle with the Datastore name and password you used when you set it up. That is the schema that the data is now in.

You can view the data with GeoRaptor..

is there any specific oracle settings are there to select feature on mgos?

  10. March 29, 2010 at 1:54 pm

Yes, you will have to make sure that there is a Primary Key set on the table. Other than that, check your settings in Maetro or Studio…

    Thanks for your reply.
i know oracle command for setting primary key to a table
waht iam asking is by Exporting data(from map3d 2010 to oracle 10g XE)its storing as a datastore not a table.
the problem is iam unable to get the table

    for example
    while typing select * from tab;
    the PARCELS table doesn’ exist..
in which format the exported data will be stored in oracle (table or datastore)
please tell me command to retrieve the datastore

  14. April 19, 2010 at 1:38 pm

A datastore is just a user in Oracle. You have to use select * from datastore.PARCELS to get the data.
